The Mary Chilton Chapter NSDAR is committed to education in our community.  Our members serve by reading to children in schools and participating in education events aimed at young children.  Some members teach in extra-curricular STEM programs aimed at enabling young women to stay engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Through the Mary Chilton DAR Foundation, our chapter provides scholarships to Augustana and the University of Sioux Falls.  Other grants for educational programs are awarded based on an application process and board review.  We support the DAR Good Citizens Award each year.  Local winning students are recognized for possessing the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities and are presented with the awards at one of our luncheons.

Members volunteer as judges for an oral history contest sponsored by the American Legion.  Local winners from this contest advance to the state level and often go on to represent South Dakota at the national level.

We offer schoolroom grants through the Mary Chilton DAR Foundation, to help offset the costs incurred by first-time teachers to set up their classrooms.

Many members volunteer by providing religious instruction in local churches.
